One of our largest and most well-known businesses in Tahoe, Squaw Valley Resort, has been making big strides to ensure a more sustainable future in Tahoe. Squaw Valley is proud to be the first ski resort in Lake Tahoe and California to install electric car chargers at the base of the resort. These 4 charging stations are free of charge for guests to use while they enjoy their time on the slopes. In addition to that Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows has discontinued selling single-use water bottles, and as a result, will remove at least 28,000 bottles from their waste stream and landfills each season. They encourage guests to carry a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated for free with great-tasting, mountain tap water. There are 20+ refill stations located throughout the resort. The easy changes we can make and help our community future in big ways, but Squaw Valley still feels they have a responsibility to do more. They have recently partnered with forward-thinking Tesla. Tesla is at the forefront of battery storage and production, which is key to Squaw's plan of developing an onsite micro-grid. The resorts are not only looking to deploy a solar array at their base but also looking at developing, with help from Tesla, a utility-grade energy storage system. Squaw Valley's work with Tesla proves that the smallest ideas and discussions can lead to a ripple effect of changes for the better. What We Do To Keep Tahoe Blue
With Earth Day right around the corner, we want to praise and thank all the people of Tahoe that work so hard to keep Lake Tahoe beautiful and clean year-round. Here at Tahoe Moon Properties, we have been trying our best to do our part. We switched to eco-friendly products in our houses, recycle, reuse, and print as little as possible in the office, and have joined a great organization called The Sonder Project. Over 48 million Americans live in food-insecure households, The Sonder Project aims to solve this problem, by utilizing resources that are already available and would otherwise have gone to waste. This program was launched within the vacation rental space to capture the food items that would otherwise be left behind in homes and condos when vacationers head home. Just by designating a Sonder Project bag at the house, departing guests may leave any unopened, nonperishable food items that they may have remaining at the end of their stay in the bag. Upon guestsâ departure, the bags are picked up and taken to Project Mana which is our local resource for food distribution. This is a great program and project, just by adding this bag to a home guests can help feed those who really need it. There are so many people taking the right steps to ensure we all can enjoy a healthy, happy, and beautiful Lake Tahoe for many years to come. This month we gather together to celebrate these caring people and our Earth. Here is North Lake Tahoe, we all gather to celebrate together at the Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Festival. This is a volunteer-run, non-profit event to recognize, celebrate and promote the regionâs unique beauty and to educate the public regarding how to preserve and protect our local and global natural resources. The Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Foundation is also working to increase the effort around solid waste management and will continue to work towards its goal of hosting a Zero Waste and Carbon Neutral event. Our local Earth Day celebration is one of the largest environmental education events in the area. The event provides local residents and visitors an opportunity to learn about the various environmental issues that affect the North Lake Tahoe â" Truckee Region. The North Lake Tahoe/Truckee Earth Day festival is hosted primarily by volunteers of the Tahoe Earth Day Foundation, a local non-profit, with the support of other non-profits, local agencies, businesses, and dedicated supporters. The Saturday event is free for the public to attend, at The Village at Squaw Valley on April 22nd, 2017 from 11 am - 5 pm. T.A.R.T. will be offering free transportation from the event back to North Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, and Truckee. Tahoe Truckee Earth Day strives to be a Zero Waste event.
