These guided, lift-accessed ski tours are a great option for first-time backcountry skiers. You can book this tour as a single skier or with a group of up to six people.
2. Mount Rose Ski Area
Mount Rose is a great option for backcountry skiing in the Truckee area. Just outside of Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest, where you can embark on a backcountry skiing adventure. With nearly 3,000 feet of elevation gain, it’s not for the faint of heart!
3. Castle Peak
Castle Peak is located north of Donner Pass and offers some of the best backcountry skiing in North Lake Tahoe. The ascent is much flatter than others in the area, which makes it a less strenuous option. However, you can still make an entire day out of skiing Castle Peak.
